Festival fever is spreading!
The Edinburgh Festival Carnival opened Edinburgh’s festival season yesterday. A spectacular parade of over 600 dancers, musicians, puppeteers and artists was transforming Edinburgh’s Princes Street and Princes Street Gardens into a celebration of music, dance and colours and spread the Brazilian carnival feeling. The performers came from all over the world including Martinique, the Bahamas, Zambia as well as Scotland.
Princes Street was closed for traffic and thousands of spectators came to experience the parade making its way down the Mound to the West End of Princes Street. The artists continued their performances in Princes Garden until late afternoon. The event was free and organized by the Edinburgh Blues and Jazz Festival, which will continue to run until the 27 July 2014.
The Edinburgh Art Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Edinburgh International Book Festival and the Edinburgh Military Tattoo will take place in August.
