Unbelievable

Visited this beautiful place for the first time. What can i say? Such a magnificent building with impeccable decor. Stayed in the beautiful Rose room with spectacular views of the gardens. Wonderful bathroom with huge bath and shower. Owners Chris and Barbara were so nice and made us feel so welcome. If you are visiting Edinburgh, Dunbar, North Berwick or Haddington you must stay at this place. FANTASTIC!!!

Beautiful stay

Visited some friends in Haddington over the weekend and found Letham House when booking accommodation on booking.comI cannot recommend it enough. The attention to detail amongst the house and rooms is second to none. The bathrooms are beautiful and luxurious (there is even candles available in the bathroom). Very comfortable bed and tea platter in the room is beautiful.Owners are very friendly and welcoming people and make the best French Toast I have ever had.

Wonderful romantic break

We had a wonderful stay at Letham House to celebrate my husbands birthday. The house and grounds are beautiful and the area is extremely peaceful. Our room was very spacious, with lovely views overlooking the garden and had a separate shower room with a large walk-in shower and also a separate bathroom with a jacuzzi bath! Everything was very clean and well decorated. Breakfast is served in the elegant dining room and is absolutely delicious - we recommend the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs! We also dined at Letham House on our first evening which was a wonderful experience - fantastic food, an opportunity to chat to fellow guests, and all finished off with coffee in the drawing room. We would definitely recommend a stay at Letham House, we hope to return soon!

Absolute haven

Letham House is a home of genteel beauty, and, perhaps unexpectedly, sincere kindness. Last week, the 17th century doors opened themselves to this professionally stressed-out woman, taking a four-night vacation at a really inconvenient time (we were visiting our son who is at school in Gifford). By the time we said our goodbyes to the gracious Barbara and Chris, I felt completely rejuvenated. The rooms are beautiful, the beds comfortable, the spacious bathrooms a treat, the cleanliness top-notch, the quiet so thick and yummy you can cut it with a butter knife. We woke up each morning with a sense of being at home, and a sense of peace. Where you can find THAT in today's world??!! Our four-night stay coincided with the stays of some really wonderful guests as well. Conclusion: Restful and enriching, Letham House is a gigantic plus sign in the account book of life.

Excellent experience

I stayed here with clients. Its more of a stay at a house than a hotel. We were met on arrival by the owner who showed us to 3 of their 6 rooms. My room was large and very tastefully decorated and had a really good en suite shower room. Drinks were served in the Drawing Room whilst dinner was prepared. There's no menu or wine list: we were led to a real dining room set for 3 and served personally with great quality 'home-cooked' food which had been paired with an excellent white wine. My client were bowled over by the quality of the House, which is a former estate, food and accommodation. The house is set in several acres of grounds, which to be honest was a little too cold to enjoy, but I'm sure would be beautiful to wander in the summer. Its an excellent venue either for a group of friends wanting a private getaway or a corporate get-together. I' will definitely use again!

Perfect stay in Scotland

Golf break in Scotland. This trip was made extra special by the friendly owners of Letham house. It truly feels like being a guest in their beautiful home. The facilities are superb. The property magnificent and they helped with everything we needed from restaurant recommendations to organising tee times for the golf. I will definitely return. We couldn't have found a better place. Read lessVery personal and warm service throughout or stay. All was truly wonderful.

Great hospitality

We stayed for three nights at the beginning of April. It is a splendid house in beautiful surroundings but what makes this special is the exceptional hospitality and care that Barbara affords her guests. She served us a meal of top restaurant quality our first night (after finding out exactly what we wished to eat) and so it went on. And at the end when I amazingly left my passport in a bedroom drawer she was most solicitous in ensuring I had this back as soon as possible. It is a place of great service and friendliness. (And a bus to Edinburgh at the top of the drive !).

Wonderful Christmas

We stayed in a large bedroom with large bathroom and enjoyed the most attractive decor there and in the public rooms. We ate quite splendid food for breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner. But best of all was the way in which Barbara and Chris created the impression that we were friends come to stay.

Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic

We stayed with Chris and Barbara this weekend and absolutely loved it. I can't recommend it highly enough. We arrived on the Thursday and Barbara rang to check we were on course to arrive ok, if we had any questions etc. Letham House is stunning. Set in 10 acres of mixed woodland, and approached by a lovely private road, the house is imposing but approachable. The house feels like a home, with some lovely family pictures and lots of beautiful rooms. We spent some time in the downstairs nook with the fire on and Rosie the dog curled up round our toes. The drawing room is also a lovely place to relax and unwind. Our room was great with an enormous bathroom and what I think is called a slipper bath, which was great for a long soak. The food was beautiful, both the breakfasts, and the dinner. We had dinner on Saturday with a jockey, the owner and the trainers who were running at Musselburgh the following day. It was really nice to meet others and have a chat over dinner. Dinner was a masterpiece - tomato soup , with a little chilli kick,to start; lovely beef, roasted vegetables and potato rosti and a coconut rice pudding. I really would recommend staying here. You can use it as a base for Edinburgh - we hired a little Fiat 500 and hopped on the train from Newcraighall park and ride for £3:80 return, avoiding the high costs (and troubles!) of parking. We also popped over to North Berwick, and also Haddington itself, both of which are lovely. Some great places to eat too, as recommended by Chris and Barbara. Our whole stay was great and I must also thank Carolyn, who works with Chris and Barbara, who was lovely and does a fantastic porridge. We're hoping to come back once our baby is born as they were so welcoming (they love babies and the newly done rooms to the right of the house are more than big enough to accommodate this). Go there, relax, unwind!

Perfect place to relax and recharge

Grand house in the countryside yet only 25 mins from Edinburgh city centre. Or if you just want to pop out for dinner, Haddington is 5 mins car journey or if you want the seaside, North Berwich is 20 minutes away, in other words its perfect location. We got a hire car from the airport for the ultimate convenience at low cost. The place itself is gorgeous, this was in Feb, would be even better in the summer. But what really made it great for me was the service, truly felt welcomed by Barbara, Chris and Rosie! We were planning our wedding so had to get out and about but always looked forward to getting back and relaxing in front of the fire, then having a superb nights sleep in one of the extremely comfortable rooms. Doesn't feel like a hotel, just feels like you are staying in someones house, thats sounds odd but felt so relaxed and at home in the place. The breakfasts are made to order with fresh eggs from the chickens. Wonderful. Went walking in the grounds to visit the horse and the donkey after Barbara lent us some wellies, we live in the city so this was lovey for us. Was sad to leave but felt completely recharged and booked to return in August! All round a great stay and would recommend to anyone looking to get away from it all.
We stayed recently with Barbara and Chris for my son's wedding . We were a group of friends of the groom and family. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel most welcome and relaxed. Barbara and Chris went out of their way to be extremely helpful and attentive. The bedrooms are all lovely and the grounds are delightful too. Barbara cooked us a beautiful meal in the dining room on the evening before the wedding and provided us with sandwiches before the wedding and wonderful Scottish breakfasts ! This is definitely one of the nicest places i have ever stayed in and would thoroughly recommend everyone to stay there ! You will love it !
We stayed for 2 nights in the rose garden room. Reasonable size, comfortable bed, excellent decor and luxurious bathroom. The house is beautiful and Barbara was extremely friendly. We had a meal on the first night which was beautiful and reasonably priced £35 for 3 courses plus cheese board. We shared the table with another couple but if you didnt like communal dining there are some nice restaurants near by.Breakfast on both mornings was great. This is the place to go for a quiet luxurious stay with a welcoming, informal atmosphere.
We spent three nights at Letham House for a family wedding and from the moment you turn into the drive and look down the ruler straight road to the big white house ahead, you get the feeling you are somewhere special. The house is just perfect. It has the laid back feeling of a family home whilst still delivering the wow factor as a temporary residence. A charming and interesting couple wait to be your hosts. If you are visiting this area, there is simply no other choice to make but visiting Barbara and Chris!
Barbara & Chris cannot do enough for you, whilst being discreet and letting you enjoy their stunning home. They are such genuine hosts and very friendly. I recently stayed along with family & friends for a long weekend and we took the whole place over. The bed is the most comfortable we have ever slept in and the setting is just outstanding. We all had such a memorable time and Letham House played a big part in our enjoyment. Many many happy memories!!
We spent our wedding night here recently and it was the perfect end to the perfect day. The room was stunning and very comfortable. We had a lovely breakfast and then unfortunately had to leave to go on honeymoon! It would have been great to have been able to stay longer, which we would hope to do in future.
Barbara & Chris looked after us who were staying for the Open golf so well. Nothing was too much trouble & everything was of an excellent high standard. I would recommend a stay in this little homely retreat to anyone - don't miss out.
Stayed three nights in July 2013 during our holiday in Scotland. Spacious room and bathroom, nice beds! View over the beautiful garden - and very silent! Great breakfast, you will not leave the table hungry. When visiting Edinburgh, stay at Letham House! The house is a 5 minutes walk from the busstop and it takes about 40-45 minutes to get to the center of Edinburgh by bus. Barbara and Chris did an excellent job in taking care of us. And we were very sorry to leave..
We chose LH because we didn't want to be in a B&B or hotel right in North Berwick. We chose LH. Based on other reviews and it was a great choice. The room we had was large with a generous ensuite. Breakfast was fantastic and Barbara cooks some evenings although we were not able to avail ourselves of the opportunity. The property is very tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean with very friendly hosts. We were go,fing in East Lothian and LH. Is well located for easy access to many great courses in the area. Nice eating also at the bistro on the river in Haddington
Definitely one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have been fortunate enough to stay in. Watching deer run across the driveway as I sit eating breakfast was priceless. Barbara is an excellent hostess and we will most definitely be returning.
My husband and I stayed for two nights to celebrate my birthday. It was the perfect location. The house itself is beautiful, set in a peaceful location but still near enough to be able to go to Edinburgh by bus and leave the car behind. Barbara made us very welcome, giving us a tour of the house on our arrival before showing us to our amazing room on the top floor of the house. It was one of the luxury rooms complete with a roll top bath and a huge walk in shower. The bedroom had a lovely view over the rear gardens and the most comfortable double bed. We had a fantastic 3 course meal on the Friday night, cooked by Barbara. It cost £35 per person and was excellent value for money. We were also able to take our own wine for the meal with no charge for corkage. One of the highlights was sharing both the dinner and breakfast table with other guests who were staying allowing us to chat and share ideas about places to visit. Barbara was extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. This is definitely a place to return to.
